Italian WW1 Graves in Belgium
There are 81 graves of Italian WW1 soldiers in the Belgian military cemetery in Houthulst Forest, north of Ieper. It is believed that they died whilst working as labourers for the Germans as Prisoners of War.
The grave marker includes the Italian flag and a brass plate with the forename and surname of the individual only. The grave in the photograph is for Zilio Battista. No date or unit is given on the grave marker.
The British military cemetery at Lieège in Belgium, called Liège (Robermont) Cemetery contains the graves of Italian Prisoners of War, and they are now in the care of The Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
