“Thuzetje” was built in 1919 as one of the homes funded by the King Albert I Fund for the reconstruction of Ypres after the devastation it had suffered in the Great War of 1914-1918. Historically it is an important building and one of the few remaining original houses in the town dating from that year. Originally the cottage was built as temporary housing and was to be demolished when the main reconstruction of Ypres was underway.
The cottage is tucked away in a small alley in the heart of the historic town of Ypres. It is within a short walk of the Market Square, the Cloth Hall and the Menin Gate Memorial.
“Thuzetje” was completely renovated in 2008/2009 and features all modern comforts as a cosy holiday home for up to five persons.

Small groups of up to 16 persons can be accommodated.] The farm was given the name "Varlet Farm" by British soldiers during WW1 and appears as such on trenchmaps. The original farm, situated on Passchendaele territory and strongly fortified by the Germans, was finally taken by the "Hood Battalion", Royal Naval Division, after fierce fighting in October 1917. Nothing of the original farm remained by 1918.
In 1922 rebuilding commenced just a few metres from the original site and the result is the building that the family lives in today. Today Varlet Farm is a typical working farm.
5 miles (9 km) from Ypres and close to all the major battle sites, memorials and cemeteries. Varlet Farm is ideally situated for anyone wishing to research the Ypres Salient.

This accommodation is located in peaceful countryside in the south of the Ypres Salient, close to Ploegsteert Wood and the Ploegsteert Memorial to the Missing. The city of Ypres is only a few miles away. The French border at Armentières is a few miles from the farm and trips to the battlefields of the Somme, Loos, Arras, Artois and Vimy in northern France can easily be made within a day. The city of Lille with its cultural events, historic buildings and shopping is approximately half an hour's drive and an easy place to visit for the day.
There are many opportunities to do sporting activities from 't Wolvennest, such as walking, biking and horse-riding. The golf club of Palingbeek is close by and the indoor skiing Ice Mountain centre at Comines is short drive away.
Smoking is not allowed in the rooms. Pets are not allowed in the rooms, but they can stay in the stables. Payment is accepted in Euros (cash only).

Adjoining Woodside B&B lies the Neo-Gothic castle of d'Aertrycke with its lake and beautiful park. You can wander freely in the grounds or eat in the restaurant 'Charbon', one of the gastronomical 'Passim Restaurants'.
500 Metres away is the castle of Wijnendale, built in the middle ages, with its two museums 'The castle museum' and the 'Burgundy Caeshuys'. The market town of Tourhout is 5 minutes from Woodside B&B. The town has buildings dating from the 13th century in styles such as Flemish Baroque and Classicism.
Local activities include bowling, tennis, cycling, swimming, fitness and horse riding. There are tearooms, bistros and restaurants serving Belgian, Chinese, Greek, Italian and Egyptian food.
